Longitudinal Targets in Data Envelopment Analysis

چکیده
A typical use and interpretation of data envelopment analysis (DEA) targets is to identify performance goals that if achieved will project an inefficient decision making unit onto the efficiency frontier. This will occur, however, only if all other units maintain their same input and output levels, which is rarely the case over time. This paper investigates alternate approaches for interpreting and setting future performance targets in this context.

A Non-radial Approach for Setting Integer-valued Targets in Data Envelopment Analysis
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has been widely studied in the literature since its inception with Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes work in 1978. The methodology behind the classical DEA method is to determine how much improvements in the outputs (inputs) dimensions is necessary in order to render them efficient. One of the underlying assumptions of this methodology is that the units consume and prod...
متن کاملTechnically Efficient Targets for the Groups by Using the Centralized Scenario and Enhanced Russell Measure
Cooper et al. [Efficiency aggregation with enhanced Russell measures in data envelopment analysis, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, 41 (2007) 1–21] presented a method for measuring aggregate efficiency, using the enhanced Russell measure. In that paper, they posed questions and opened the way for new opportunities for studying and extending the proposed method and some other related fields. On...
متن کاملA sequence of targets toward a common best practice frontier in DEA
Original data envelopment analysis models treat decision-making units as independent entities. This feature of data envelopment analysis results in significant diversity in input and output weights, which is irrelevant and problematic from the managerial point of view. In this regard, several methodologies have been developed to measure the efficiency scores based on common weights. Specificall...
متن کاملScale Efficient Targets in Production Systems With Two-stage Structure Under Imprecise Data Assumption
Traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models evaluate two-stage decision making unit (DMU) as a black box and neglect the connectivity may exist among the stages. This paper looks inside the system by considering the intermediate activities between the stages where the first stage uses inputs to produce outputs which are the inputs to the second stage along with its own inputs. Additional...
متن کاملA Value Efficiency-Based Target Setting Approach in Data Envelopment Analysis
Basic models of Data Envelopment Analysis are intrinsically preference-free, in the sense that they consider all inputs and outputs and also all decision making units of the same importance. Although this property is beneficial in many ways, it has some drawbacks simultaneously, as the decision makers’ preferences are not taken into account in the process of evaluating units. To overcome this ...
